What is a Sawdust Savvy Workshop?
A Sawdust Savvy workshop is an instructor-led event where you will build a wood project to take home with you. We offer a number of different projects from wood signs to serving trays to blanket ladders. Our workshops are a combination of learning, building, socializing and FUN!
What power tools will I learn to use in a Sawdust Savvy workshop?
Depending on the project, you will have the opportunity to learn to use power tools including a brad nailer or a drill. Safety is our number one priority, so we always pre-cut the wood and sometimes we will pre-drill.
What should I wear to a Sawdust Savvy workshop?
Wear clothing that you would paint in and closed-toe shoes. There is a chance that your clothing will get dirty and/or stained in the shop. We offer aprons to help protect your clothing.
I'd like to sign up for a workshop. Do I need to host a private party?
No. We offer workshops on multiples dates every month that anyone can register for. Check our DIY Workshops page to find out what is available. Learn more about bringing your group to Sawdust Savvy with our Tips for Booking a Group, or Request a Group if you're ready to hold seats for 7 days. Or, if you have a group of 18 or more, learn more about hosting a Private Event.
Can I come and watch my friends without making a project?
No. While we love to have people see us in action, paid participants are the only people allowed at a Sawdust Savvy workshop due to liability reasons. We encourage everyone to join in the fun!
Something came up and I can't make it anymore. What is your cancellation policy?
We know life gets busy! With at least 24 hours notice, we are happy to issue you a credit (in the form of a coupon code) that can be used toward a future workshop (valid for one year after cancellation date). Contact us to cancel. We do not offer refunds.
Do you have a weather policy?
Yes! It is the policy of Sawdust Savvy to remain open for workshops during periods of inclement weather; however, where extraordinary weather circumstances warrant, Sawdust Savvy reserves the right to cancel workshops and offer full refunds to participants, or credit toward a future workshop (participant’s choice).
Extraordinary weather circumstances may include:
Greater than 12” of snowfall (forecasted during workshop or prior to event without road clearing),
Electricity is out in our studio,
Heat in the winter is unavailable,
Flooding effects transportation, or
The governor declares a weather emergency and asks people to stay off the roads.
Participants choosing to stay home due to a weather event outside of these extraordinary weather circumstances must notify Sawdust Savvy prior to the workshop, and will be issued a credit toward a future workshop (good for 12 months after cancellation date).
In the event of a business closure, participants will be notified no later than one hour prior to the workshop.
Are children allowed at Sawdust Savvy?
Children under the age of 18 are welcome to participate as a paid participant at Sawdust Savvy with an accompanying, paid adult. We do not have a minimum age requirement but a suggested minimum age of 8, with an adult to child ratio of 1:2. Our recommendation for participating minors is that they are:
Willing, enthusiastic participants that are willing to work autonomously on their project with oversight from an adult.
Capable of participating for the full 3 hours.
Not a distraction to accompanying adults or other participants.
For a typical child, this usually happens around age 10-12, although we have had younger children successfully participate. Hand-over-hand instruction is required during the power tool segment. Minors aged 10 and under are welcome to make ONE mini sign for $39. If you would like to participate in a workshop with this option, please use our Book A Group form and indicate in the notes that you would like to add the Minor for $39 option.
While we fully support getting mothers out for a day of crafting fun, we cannot allow infants or toddlers in the studio at any time during a workshop due to liability reasons. We are fully supportive of nursing mothers who need to pump and/or speed up their visit to attend to a nursing child.
